Our Story

David Hart is a self-taught artist, surfer, sailor, swimmer, youth-worker, educator.

Cornwall and Sussex are the main sources of initial inspiration behind this exploration of ‘Spirit of Place’ collection.

His Inspirations

Cornwall, where David was raised, moves him deeply with its  surf, harbours, cliff tops, moorland, stone circles, legend and mining past..

His working life has been spent in Sussex, where he lives most of the year – capturing his imagination.

It is a land of folds, hursts, hams, hollow ways, and history written on the land by Roman roads, drovers’ tracks, ancient woodlands, chalk downs and hill forts.

Together they have inspired this website – Pieces of hArtwork – and David’s original postcard-sized paintings dedicated to Spirit of Place, memory and imagination.

The Postcard Project

In this project David has chosen to paint on postcards. A way of telling other people you are in a place, or experiencing something that you wish to share.

They can powerfully say: “I am here. This is a place and experience that has meaning for me.”

All postcards in this collection are unmounted; the choice of what to with them is yours.

Mounting… Framing… Sending through the post… Or simply propping on your desk to give you a momentary holiday in your working day.

Previous Projects

It is David’s joy to share the outcomes of his painting process with others.

In the past he has also previously raised an impressive £5000 for young genocide survivors with his lockdown art after previously volunteering in Rwanda for six months.

Met with great enthusiasm for his creative work, David’s paintings raised vital funds for Rwandan charity Acts of Gratitude (AOG) which trains and supports young survivors of the 1994 genocide in setting up social enterprises.
